Open Source Tools for Spatial Analysis and Geoprocessing on the Desktop
will be presented on Monday April 19th 2010 at the WAURISA conference by Karsten Vennemann - Terra GIS Ltd. and the "Cascadia Users of Geospatial Open Source" group.
A general introduction and overview about the tools covered in this workshop will be followed by examples illustrating the use of desktop utilities based on the OGR/GDAL libraries, PostGIS ("the" open source spatial database) and gvSIG (a desktop GIS) for spatial analysis and geoprocessing.

If you like to try this all on your windows machine instead of running the live DVD you can download and install the windows versions:

gvSIG Oxford Archeology Digital version (2010 Beta 2) http://oadigital.net/software/gvsigoade/gvsigoade2010beta
download at ftp://88.208.250.116/gvsig-oade-2010-1.0.0.b2-windows-installer.exe

GDAL and OGR (and much more) you can install for example using http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/osgeo4w-setup.exe (select all packages you like or only OGR and GDAL). More information on http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/

PostgreSQL 8.4.X http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/pgdownload.do#windows (install first)
and PostGIS 1.5.1 http://postgis.refractions.net/download/windows/pg84/postgis-pg84-setup-1.5.1-1.exe
