They are located at 450 110th Ave. NE (NE 4th Street and 110th Ave. NE) in downtown Bellevue, near the 6th Street Transit Center and Interstate 405. People should park in Visitor parking (entrance on 110th) and make sure to get their parking validated by Service First on the first floor.

TITLE: The Use of GIS in Continuing Education Marketing

DESCRIPTION:

The innovative use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology is offering Tacoma Community College a new strategic view of its regional continuing education markets through systematic mapping. In a pilot project using GIS mapping to track continuing education enrollments, TCC has created geographic maps illustrating demographic and enrollment patterns. Using GIS mapping in combination with other marketing assessment techniques has significantly enhanced TCC?s ability to target marketing materials and mailers to neighborhoods most likely to enroll in specific types of classes, with the goal of reducing expenditures and increasing enrollments and revenue.

CONTENT:

The purpose of the presentation is to provide an overview of TCC?s continuing education marketing pilot project using GIS analysis. The presentation format will be a lecture and PowerPoint presentation with question and answer session. Several project maps produced on a large format plotter will also be displayed.

Program outline:

An overview of TCC?s CE programs and marketing plan
A description of pilot project assumptions and relevant marketing theories as a basis for project development
Outline of project steps
Display of project geo-maps with analysis of information derived
Description of changes to CE marketing plan as result of geo-mapping assessment

At the completion of this session, the participants should be able to understand the importance and relevance of geo-demographic variables on enrollments and revenue.

DESCRIPTION OF PRESENTER:

Terry Smith, Program Analyst and Support Specialist, holds a B.A. from the University of Washington. His major was Business Administration; his minor - Management of Information Systems. He has worked with GIS technology since 2002. In addition to analysis work, he also teaches an introductory non-credit GIS class for TCC.
